Finding funding

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

The City of Iqaluit is still looking for money for its much-needed capital projects.

The federal government has pulled through, giving Iqaluit a $65,000 grant for infrastructure planning. “We hope this will be a crack in the door to allow us dollars for actual infrastructure construction,” said Rick Butler, Iqaluit’s senior administrative officer.

Now, the council’s main focus is getting more cash from the Nunavut government. The city is looking to borrow several million dollars in order to work on capital projects, such as upgrading water and sewer lines, paving roads and completing the sewage treatment plant.
