Tenants at a four-unit apartment complex in Kuujjuaq are temporarily displaced following an early morning fire on Dec. 22.

A crew of nine firefighters arrived at the scene at around 5:17 a.m. and had the fire under control and mostly contained to one unit by 5:55 a.m., said Kuujjuaq fire department Capt. Richard Jones.

The cause of the fire was probably accidental and the file has been turned over to police, Jones said in an interview.

“It’s a sad thing, this time of the year, when you get something like this happening over carelessness,” he said.

“Buildings are so precious in the North and then something like this happens, it’s not something we want to talk too much about.”

No injuries were reported and tenants, including those in the other three units, have temporarily moved out while cleanup continues, Jones said.

The Nunavik Police Service did not respond Monday to a request for comment on the fire investigation.

Carelessness is right and us inuit rarely get our own home they’re so many of us Inuit here even white men and women and children and elders too yeah but there’s alway’s a But From my view the white get the fair share while us Inuit can nearly wait for half a decade just for a single unit or 2 to 3 bedroom homes. Ps my point is we are strong inuit and need to be stronger instead of letting the white man take over our lives first then our babies/families and our homes with there illegal drugs and alcohol.

So you don’t like white people. Simple solution, get an education, get to work, take all the teaching, health contruction and office jobs. Problem solved, if there is no work outsiders won’t come. Every house you build is yours. How can you go wrong.
