The Rankin Inlet fire department was called out to fight a fire that engulfed the porch of a home Friday evening.

After receiving a call at 7:26 p.m., firefighters “had water” on the fire nine minutes later, the department reported in a statement posted to its Facebook page.

Thirteen firefighters battled the blaze on 64th Avenue.

Photos posted by the fire department show the front porch of the home engulfed in flames with an SUV parked nearby.

Apart from the “cold porch and some minor smoke damage, most of the home is intact,” the post states.

Fire Chief Mark Wyatt could not be reached for comment on the cause of the fire. Deputy fire Chief George Aksadjuak said the fire was not considered to be suspicious.
