Iqaluit firefighters responded to a fire late Monday morning in a building which houses the Nunavut Wellness Spa.
Smoke could be seen pouring out of the upper floor of the building 1419, which is located on Sikituuq Court off Sivumugiaq Street, the city’s main road.
Firefighters climbed the ladder truck and entered the building through a second-floor entrance.
A municipal enforcement vehicle blocked access to the street, where two fire engines were parked. A city water truck was parked across the street on standby.
Just before noon, the city issued public service announcement asking people to avoid the area and warning of possible traffic disruptions.
“Please avoid 1419 for the duration of the fire, to give our firefighters the room they need to complete their job safely,” the statement said.
“In addition to giving them space on the road, be aware there could be disruptions to trucked water services, as they will be prioritizing emergency response.”
It’s not clear if anyone was injured in the fire. Two ambulances were parked nearby during the fire department’s response.
The spa is located in the lower floor of the building, according to the Nunavut Wellness Spa website.

Praying for a happy ending and minimal damage
Prayer, when only the most useless course of action will do
When you privately pray, you can work through serious decisions in your life. Even when your prayers are not answered immediately or in the way we might have hoped, prayer itself is a way to find peace. Plus who doesn’t go to the spa and prays for a happy ending.
You spelled ‘pay’ wrong 😉
One day you will grow up and respect other people beliefs and how they express hope.. My hope is you will keep your ‘useless’ comments to yourself when you grow up and become a respectful adult. Time will tell.
Hopefully you’ll learn to do the same as well. The poster expressed disdain for prayer and religion. This is commonly held and perfectly mundane viewpoint.
There is no need for you to either like or agree with it. What is absolutely required is that you respect the poster’s choice. Perhaps you should try some of this adulting that you mentioned?
BTW, I in no way find the commenter’s comments ‘useless’. They are an important part of the exchange of ideas and comments on this forum.
I like George Carlins take on prayer , How he prays to Joe Pesci .
Sounds like you’ve had a hard go that you cannot even tolerate the word “pray”. Most internet atheists are afterall born from negative emotional experiences rather than intellectual considerations.
should never use the words “pray” and “intellectual” in the same paragraph. they contradict each other. stick with intellectual.
I find it unlikely that a third of the country suffered ‘negative emotional experiences’ as you say.
Atheists and agnostics. “Know it all people”. Yawn.
Ironic as agnostic literally means ‘without knowledge’
