Fireworks will light up the sky over Iqaluit on New Year’s Eve.

Two fireworks displays are planned for the night of Dec. 31 to help ring in the new year 2024, the City of Iqaluit announced Thursday.

The first show, at 6 p.m., will be at Imiqtarviminiq Lake, along the Road to Nowhere near the Masjid mosque. A second, larger show is set for midnight from the breakwater near the Grind and Brew.

Both displays will be led by Michael Salomonie, a Baffinland Iron Mines Corp. employee “who has years of experience lighting up the Iqaluit skies,” according to a release from the city.

Members of the Iqaluit Fire Department will be on site to assist and also train for their fireworks certifications.
