Fishing in Qikiqtarjuaq
Premier Paul Okalik pledge in the legislative assembly last Wednesday to give fishermen in Qikiqtarjuaq “support wherever we can.”
The premier was responding to questions posed by Uqqummiut MLA James Arreak, who wanted to know what progress had been made on the Nattivak Hunters and Trappers Assocation’s repeated requests for a share of the quota in division OA.
Okalik said the GN was working to increase Nunavut’s quota on shrimp and turbot fishing around that area.
“We will be going to court on December 6, next month, on this issue,” Okalik told Arreak. “Especially for the shrimp quota for around the Qikiqtarjuaq-Clyde River area.”
