Five-year-old girl found dead in Kugaaruk

Four police officers from the RCMP Major Crimes Unit and Forensic Identification Unit in Iqaluit were in Kugaaruk earlier this week after the body of a five-year-old girl was found last Friday morning.

RCMP are calling the death suspicious.

Spokesman Cpl. Randy Slawson was unable to offer any more details, as of Nunatsiaq News press time, but did say that an autopsy was being performed.

Both the mayor, Canute Krenujuak, and the senior administrative officer, Elwood Johnson, declined to comment on Tuesday afternoon.
