Flights tight to Kuujjuaq

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

Travellers going to and from Kuujjuaq are scrambling for seats, but space will remain scarce until later this month. According to First Air’s marketing manager, Tracey Beeman, several factors are responsible for the backlog — including a glut of hunters and fishermen heading to Nunavik camps, the Aqpik Jam music festival in Kuujjuaq, and continuing airstrip repairs in Kuujjuaq.

Beeman said the congestion will be reduced when a second plane is added to the Kuujjuaq-Montreal route Aug. 20.

On the same date, flights from Kuujjuaq to Iqaluit will cease until the end of September. That means passengers who want to fly between Iqaluit and Montreal will have to travel through Ottawa.

Passengers wanting to fly between Iqaluit and Kuujjuaq will have to take a big detour through Montreal.
