A first-degree murder trial involving a man from Cambridge Bay remains stalled after a delay has pushed proceedings until Thursday.
Tyler Hikoalok, 22, stands accused in the death of Elisabeth Salm in Ottawa. His trial entered its fourth week on Monday.
The Crown closed its case on Sept. 29 after calling some 20 witnesses to the stand, including forensic investigators, first responders, Salm’s husband and educators who knew the accused.
The defence was expected to begin presenting its case on Tuesday, but that date was pushed to Thursday, for reasons that remain unclear.
Salm, 59, was found in critical condition at the Christian Science Reading Room where she had been working on May 24, 2018.
There was evidence she had been beaten and sexually assaulted. She died the following day from a traumatic head injury.
Hikoalok was arrested on May 27 and has remained in custody ever since.
