Four girls in Taloyoak have been charged with arson in connection with a fire earlier this month at the hamlet’s old home economics building.

The girls range in age from 12 to 14.

At about 6:35 p.m. on June 8, RCMP and the Taloyoak Fire Department responded to the fire at the building and firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze, RCMP Sgt. George Henrie said June 13 in a news release.

There were no reported injuries.

The four accused are scheduled to appear in court on July 14 in Taloyoak.

“Arson is very damaging to small communities where resources are scarce,” said Cpl. Mark Pillsworth of the Taloyoak RCMP in the release.

“We would also encourage the public to always report any suspicious activity to the RCMP, and parents to speak with their children in regards to fire safety and the dangers of playing with matches and lighters.”

The syntax in this article makes it stressful to read. For example, “RCMP and firefighters responded June 8 to a complaint … that the building was on fire”

Do people ‘complain ‘ that a building is on fire?
“Hello, how can I help you?”

    “I’m calling to complain”

“Yes, ma’am [sir]; what is your complaint?”

I’m complaing cuz the hamlet’s old home economics building is on fire and the smoke is blocking my view of the race [sunset , northern lights….]

And what’s with the RCMP remarks: they are grounded in redundancy, patronage, and verbosity.

Imagine not understanding the word “complaint,” then accusing someone of redundancy, patronage, and verbosity.

Talk about selective application of a thesaurus.

Maybe the OP should be warned about the dangers of playing with a dictionnary.

Maybe if you spelled correctly you might understand English a little better

Police complaint definition: When a police complaint is received, the initial step usually involves the police investigating the matter to gather evidence and determine if a crime was committed. The specific actions taken after that depend on the nature of the complaint and the relevant police regulations. The complainant may be kept informed of the progress of the investigation, and depending on the outcome, disciplinary action against the officer may be taken or the complaint may be dismissed.

I can’t imagine what the girls are going through right now, having to go to court.

Children are neglected and need more attention by their parents, where are the parents? Parents should be more responsible for their children.

They are all minors and the responsibility of the parents. The girls should be charged as well as the parents.
