GG honours Nunavut rangers
IQALUIT — Governor General Adrienne Clarkson presented two Canadian Rangers from Nunavut with a new honour for Canadian Rangers at a ceremony in Rideau Hall this Monday.
Master Corporal Jimmy Tassugat and Ranger Peter Kuniliussie from Clyde River represented Nunavut rangers at the ceremony.
“I was very proud to watch the Nunavut Canadian Rangers recieved the credit for dedicated work that we do not always recognize iin our communities, said Nunavut MP Nancy Karetak-Lindell, who attended the ceremony.
Seventeen Canadian Rangers received the new Rangers bar to the special services medal, which recognizes at least four years of honourable service. All Canadian Rangers who have served for more than four years will receive the new award.
The Canadian Rangers have acted as guides and advisors to the Canadian military for the past 50 years.
