Giant Pangnirtung tapestry to be unveiled
A tapestry created by weavers at the Pangnirtung Tapestry Studio will be presented to the legislative assembly on Tuesday.
The tapestry, a 10-foot by 22-foot mural, is the largest single piece the studio’s weavers have ever undertaken and one of the largest tapestries woven in Canada.
The mural was intended as a way to celebrate the birth of the territory, however difficulty securing funding delayed the project.
Seven weavers worked simultaneously from January to July to complete the project, and finishing ran into August.
A dedication and unveiling ceremony will take place at the legislative assembly in Iqaluit on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.The piece will hang in the foyer of the building.
