Three senior management positions have been filled at the Government of Nunavut.
Premier P.J. Akeeagok announced in a media release Wednesday that Les Hickey will be the new deputy minister of Human Resources for a six-month transfer.
Hickey previously served as a senior manager in the Department of Executive and Intergovernmental Affairs.
Other new appointments at the GN include Kyle Seeley as the new deputy minister of Community and Government Services, and new deputy Health minister Dan Florizone.
Seeley began the role in May 2021 for a one-year term and will now take on the position permanently. Seeley has previously held other senior management positions within the Community and Government Services department.
Florizone, from Saskatchewan, teaches and holds the position of Executive-in-Residence with the Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy. He is a former Deputy Minister of Health, Assistant Deputy Minister of Health and Deputy Minister of Education in Saskatchewan.

Why hasn’t the HR DM be replaced yet is mind blowing.
It’s time to be fair and someone needs to take the initiative to make the changes needed…Which are long overdue
Obviously they are trying to fill it but they need to find a qualified person, they can’t just throw someone in because the job needs to be filled. There are many jobs in the GN that are long over due to be filled, but if someone isn’t qualified, you can’t expect the GN to just fill it. I doubt if the Hospital is in a need of a surgeon, they will throw a Northmart store manager in to do surgeries. Duh
Didn’t realize it takes 8-9 years to replace someone…Dumbfounded…..
No job posting, no opportunity to apply. Hire in people who have never worked in Nunavut to top positions like DM Health and they all last five minutes
Just because someone lives in Nunavut doesn’t mean they are qualified, more than likely they are NOT qualified as education up here seems to be less of a priority.
Remember….credit due where credit due
DM positions are appointed by the Premiers sole discretion. Also turfed at his (or her) discretion. Why HR DM remains is up to one person and one person alone. Poor judgement to say the least. But let’s hope bringing new DMs on he has a bit more thought into it.
Ummmm… not true. DM positions go out for competitions. The Premier doesn’t solely appoint DM’s.
