GN lifts state of emergency in Kinngait
Issues related to distribution of safe drinking water have been resolved, according to news release
The state of emergency declared in Kinngait over water distribution in the hamlet is being lifted, the Government of Nunavut announced Tuesday evening.
The decision was made because “the issues related to the municipal water infrastructure have been addressed, and municipal services have been restored,” said Community and Government Services Minister David Joanasie, in a news release.
The GN announced the state of emergency May 17 after an electrical issue at the water pumphouse limited the hamlet’s ability to distribute treated water to residents.
The order ends at the end of the day Tuesday, according to the GN release.
