GN staff grows, despite high turnover

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

Human Resources Minister Peter Kilabuk tabled a chart listing the departure rate of GN employees in all departments for 2000 and 2001.

The numbers show that about a third of the government’s staff left each year. The staff was rebuilt with new hires the following year.

Small departments show the most drastic rates, such as CLEY’s 58 per cent departure rate in 2001 (11 of 19 employees left) and the department of the executive’s 93 per cent figure in 2000 (the department lost 14 of 15 staff members).

Almost all departments showed departure rates of 20 per cent or more, with some showing much higher figures, such as Nunavut Arctic College’s 53 per cent (59 out of 112) and health and social services’ 40 per cent (196 out of 496).

However, overall, staffing levels grew each year, with a growth rate of 22 per cent from 1999 to 2001.
