Greenland supports Nunavut’s food security

Elisapee Sheutiapik, Nunavut’s minister of Family Services, announced on June 6 the recipients of a $100,000 donation made by the Government of Greenland last year in the aftermath of a fire that destroyed Iqaluit’s Northmart store’s warehouse. The donation, set to combat food insecurity, will be distributed to the City of Iqaluit’s Makkuttukkvik Youth Centre cooking club, the Apex District Education Authority’s Nutrition program and the Iqaluit District Education Authority’s cooking clubs and programs at its four schools. “This incredible contribution will help build food preparation skills for the youth of Iqaluit, and create life-long skills to help build food security,” Sheutiapik told the legislature June 6, thanking the Greenlandic government. “It’s a wonderful example of Pilimmaksarniq in action.” (Photo by John Thompson)
