Greenland to sell water and ice

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

Greenland’s Home Rule government wants to sell bottled water and glacier ice to earn money and create jobs.

Private investors, the Siumut Party and the Inuit Atagatigiit Party will back a nine-year plan to launch large-scale production of water and ice.

The Homerule Government will sink 25 million krøner, or about $5 million, into the project over the next five years.

Greenland’s minister for natural resources, Jørgen Wæver Johansen, told Ritzau news service that the project has a lot of potential.

“Regardless of whether these products are exported abroad or produced exclusively for the domestic market, we can easily reduce our imports of bottled water,” Johansen said.
