Four Greenlandic women are crossing the ice cap from western Greenland to east Greenland, a distance of about 650 km.

They started out two weeks ago from Kangerlussuaq and are on their way to Isortoq, in east Greenland.

Their expedition is called Arnat Kalaallit 2006, which means “Greenland women 2006.”

Even though a Greenlandic woman, Karo Thomsen, went on a similar expedition with women from other countries in the beginning of the 90s, skiing from east Greenland to west Greenland, this is first time that only Greenlandic women are attempting to cross the ice cap.

Most of the people who have crossed the ice cap have been men from countries other than Greenland.
