RCMP are asking for the public’s help to locate a device reported stolen from a construction site in Iqaluit last week.

A seismograph, specifically a Supergraph manufactured by Nomis, was reported stolen on April 12.

It’s used to monitor ground vibrations from daily explosive blasts.

The theft occurred at a construction site near 297 Siku Cres., according to an RCMP news release. The theft was reported by Pilitak Enterprises Ltd.

The device has a unit number 80-131 and serial number 11092 labelled on it, and it was stored in a hard plastic storm case.

Police say the seismograph has no use or value to any person who is unqualified to operate it, but it is vital to the construction crew working with it.

Iqaluit RCMP asks anyone with information to contact investigators at 867- 979-1111.

This day and age of technology, cameras are easy security. Not too expensive, not too difficult to set up, and you can capture the spirit of the day, night, and surprise the culprit.

I thought it was mandatory, (Law)
For any construction site to have a security guard during the closure of the site.
To prevent Asrson,or electrical fire or crack head from stealing Orange Lunch Box That Seem to cost a lot lol
Contractor are getting away with either patrol every 4 hours,or security camera monitor by sleepy workers that dont watch them and phone, internet and wi fi are unrealible to transmite camera signal 24/7 due to solar flar, and weather while the law seems to dictake the need for a security guard on site, not camera, not patrol, all construction site should be monitor for breach of safety,if kids break in and hurt themself Or if fire gets out control and propagate to your house or business theres no one,no security guard to call fireman and first responder in case of emergency.internet,wi-fi and Phone are always down, here.
security camera are not good, not a safe solution here.specialy if no one watch them, when and if they work. Thats why theres a job and profession call: Security guard, and that’s why they are laws about construction site and security guards.
Nunavut official should look into this before another fire happen and Life and money are lost.yes you can Rebuild but you can not replace life or people souvenirs if they burn.

they should be security guard at every construction site, thought it was the Law ? Why did nt they have security guard there? Now they cryingbthey getvtheir thing stolen and other construction site went up in smoke had no security guard there either,Nunavut or iqaluit should monitor construction site to see if they have security guard.camera are worthless since most of the time either they dont work or no one watch them.

Is that not a specialized gizmo? Useful for only specially trained persons. So why steal it. Can’t even really put it in the trophy room.

If this is important enough to makes the news, all the B&E and other thief cases should also be reported in the news.

I imagine the only reason why this case got reported to the news is because the guy spoke french while reporting it to a french officer while all the other reported ATV ski-doo, thefts break and enter cases never make any headlines.

Yah RCMP I am calling you out.
