A helicopter crash near Resolute Bay that left three people with minor injuries last week is being investigated by the Transportation Safety Board.
On June 28 at approximately 10:12 a.m., a Bell Helicopter 206L-1 operated by Custom Helicopters departed from Truelove Inlet for Devon Island with a pilot and two passengers on board, TSB spokesperson Liam MacDonald said in an email.
During the flight, the pilot lost visual reference and collided with the ice and snow-covered terrain.
The passengers and pilot suffered minor injuries, MacDonald said. They were rescued and taken to Resolute Bay for medical evaluation.
The helicopter was destroyed in the crash.
The TSB is conducting a Class 4 investigation into the crash, MacDonald said. Its website describes a Class 4 investigation as being low complexity and limited scope.
The target timeline to conclude the investigation is 220 days.
