Help for financial hopefuls

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

Finance Minister Kelvin Ng has announced a financial-management training program to help land claims beneficiaries enhance their financial management, leadership and specialized financial skills.

The financial internship program, announced in the 2002 budget, is geared toward people interested in pursuing professional financial careers in the Nunavut government.

There are 12 financial management and specialized financial intern positions. Four of the positions will be in regional government offices and eight positions will be located in Iqaluit.

Interns will train for two years then move into permanent professional finance positions. Ng expects the program will continue beyond the two-year period, so about 200 financial positions may be filled by beneficiaries.
