Here’s how to vote in the federal election
Polls will be open for 12 hours, varying by time zone
Voters will head to the polls on April 28 for Canada’s federal election. Polling stations will be open for 12 hours, from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. EDT, 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. CDT, and 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. MDT. For more details, visit Elections Canada at elections.ca. Voters in Nunavut, Nunavik and across the country will head to the polls on Monday to cast their ballots in Canada’s 45th federal election.
With the deadline for advance voting and mail-in ballots passed, the only remaining way to vote is at your assigned polling station.
To vote in the federal election, you must be a Canadian citizen, be at least 18 years old on election day, and prove your identity and address.
You don’t need your voter information card to cast a ballot on Monday, though.
To vote, you must present:
- One piece of government-issued photo identification with your name, photo and current address; or
- Two pieces of identification, both showing your name and at least one that has your current address. A full list of accepted ID is available on the Elections Canada website; or
- If you have no identification, you can still vote by declaring your identity and address in writing, with someone who knows you vouching for you. That person must be assigned to your polling station, be prepared to prove their own identity and address, and not vouch for anyone else except in long-term care facilities.
Acceptable identification includes identification issued by the Government of Nunavut, a Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. card, health card, a card issued by an Inuit local authority, or any other identification listed on the Elections Canada website.
Polls will be open for 12 hours on Monday, from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. EDT, 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. CDT, and 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. MDT.

Get out and vote.
I like this this election , fast and short !!
Wholeheartedly, as much as we might like Lori Idlout and NDP, it would be better to vote Liberal. The rest of the Conservative party does not want to work with any Indigenous People, Inuk or not.
I don’t know yet if I will go vote yet ,
Who really will work for us inuit to stand and talk on what is needed for the north ?,
Easy job voted in this evening $200k plus …
Open for 12 hours, unless you’re one of many Nunavik communities where the polls opened late, or closed early or didn’t open at all..
