High gas prices hit Norway hard

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

Gas prices in northern Norway are now more than $2 a litre.

“This is even more expensive than at home,” German tourist Tobias Humle told newspaper VG. “We hadn’t expected that it would be like this in a country that produces as much oil as Norway.”

The high prices at the pump are due to the taxes Norway puts on gasoline to discourage consumption and to high global prices for crude oil.
