Holiday events across Nunavut

Iqaluit residents will have a long list of opportunities to celebrate the season and ring in the new year.

Games and dancing at the Abe Okpik Hall in Apex:

* Dec. 23-25: 7 p.m.-1 a.m. * Dec. 26: no games * Dec. 27-30: 7 p.m.-1 a.m. * Dec. 31: 8 p.m. until morning * Jan. 1: 7 p.m.-1 a.m.

Events at the Parish Hall:

* Dec. 25: no games * Dec. 26: a community feast will be held at 4 p.m. * Dec. 27: hunting events at 7:30 a.m.; outdoor games 9 a.m.-2 p.m.; other games will take place 7 p.m.-11:30 p.m. * Dec. 28-30: 7 p.m.-11:30 p.m. * Dec. 31: 7 p.m.-10:30 p.m. and 1 a.m.-morning * Jan. 1: 10 a.m. prize toss; games 7 p.m.-12 a.m.

A teen millennium dance will also be held at the Cadet Hall at 8 p.m.-1 a.m.

The following religious services will also be held:

St. Jude’s Anglican Mission * Dec. 24: 7 p.m. bilingual service; 9 p.m. bilingual Christmas carols; 11:30 p.m. bilingual service with communion * Dec. 25: 11 a.m. bilingual service with communion * Dec. 26: 2 p.m. bilingual service

Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Mission: * Dec. 24: 7:30 p.m. Children’s Christmas mass; 11:30 p.m. carol singing at the church; 12 a.m. midnight mass * Dec. 25: 10 a.m. Christmas mass * Dec. 26: regularly scheduled 10 a.m. mass * Jan. 1: 10 a.m. mass * Jan. 2: 10 a.m. mass of the epiphany aka Little Christmas

Baha’i: *Dec. 30: Feast to mark the Feast of Sharaf begins at sunset. The feast is spiritual and no food will be served.

Cambridge Bay

Dec. 23: Kids bingo at the Community Hall 2 p.m.-3:30 p.m. Square Dance and Games at the Community Hall 8 p.m.-12a.m.

Dec. 24: Church Service at the Community Hall 10:30 a.m.-11 a.m. Pancake brunch at the Community Hall 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Dec. 26:Sliding at the bay from 12 p.m.-2 p.m. Remote car racing 1 p.m.-3 p.m. Toying around for parents and children at the Wellness Centre from 6:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. Teen dance at the Community Hall 8 p.m.-1 a.m.

Dec. 27: Public Skate at the arena 2 p.m.-4 p.m.

Drum Dance and games at the Community Hall 8 p.m.-12 a.m.

Rankin Inlet

Due to a bli ard in Rankin Inlet the following events are only tentatively scheduled. However the hamlet’s Senior Administrative Officer, Robert Janes, said the events planned are almost certain to go ahead.

Dec. 26-29:Outdoor games will be held at Williamson Lake with square dances held in the evening at the Community Hall and teen dances at the drop in centre.
