Hunters program in Baker doesn’t help hunters
I am a Baker Lake resident and have been all my life. I am hurting because of how the local Hunters and Trappers Organization have been operating the Hunters Support Program. I have seen people get support who have not gone hunting or helped the community of Baker Lake.
The system is set up so that anyone making an income is automatically deleted from the list of applications. This includes part-time persons who may only be making the minimum wage and who have families to support.
That sends a message to me to quit trying to help myself and go on welfare. However, I also wonder if that is a good example for my kids and is it a good role model for the community.
I myself strongly think that the money should be put to good use for the benefit of the community, such as young offender programs and suicide programs.
Please do not publish my name because of the possibility of community pressure.
