Igloolik man dies in cabin fire

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

A dead man was discovered in a burned-out cabin 36 kilometres outside Igloolik, near Mogg Bay, during the afternoon of May 18, 2006.

This Wednesday, autopsy results confirmed the man was Peter Kadlutsiak, 37. The badly burned man’s teeth had to be used to identify him.

Tim Hinds, Nunavut’s chief fire marshal, said the investigation is not over, but evidence points to an accident involving a Coleman stove.

“All the indications are consistent with a flash fire having occurred in the cabin,” Hinds said.

Blood tests had not yet been received on Wednesday.

The RCMP’s major crimes and forensic unit also continue to investigate. They say foul play is unlikely, but haven’t ruled it out.
