Following a traffic stop last week, police in Rankin Inlet netted “a large quantity” of cash and illegal drugs, an RCMP news release said.

Police had stopped the vehicle in question after following up on a complaint about a disturbance and an alleged impaired driver.

After locating the vehicle in question, police seized illegal cannabis, psilocybin and shatter, the RCMP said.

Psilocybin is a psychedelic drug that’s usually found in certain types of mushrooms. Shatter is a high-potency form of cannabis that contains THC levels exceeding 90 per cent.

And regular cannabis is illegal unless it has been purchased from a licensed retailer.

A 35-year-old Rankin Inlet man now faces charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, the Cannabis Act and the Criminal Code of Canada, as well as drug trafficking offences and impaired driving.

Police did not release the man’s name.

He’s due to appear in court on June 10 in Rankin Inlet.
