Police in Ottawa are asking for the public’s help to find an Indigenous woman reported missing in Ottawa.

In a news release Monday, the Ottawa Police Service said Beronica Oqqallak, 36, was last seen Thursday evening in the Van Lang Private area of the city. A Facebook group popular among Inuit in the Ottawa area indicated she was reported missing on Friday.

Ottawa Police Service spokesperson Julie Kavanagh confirmed Oqqallak was from Nunavut, but said she was unsure whether she is Inuk.

Oqqallak was wearing a blue sweater and grey Under Armour jogging pants. She is approximately 5-foot-6, weighs 110 pounds and has black hair, the police news release said, adding police and her family are concerned for her safety.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the missing persons unit at the Ottawa Police Service at 613-236-1222, ext. 2355.
