Indigenous students seeking financial support for post-secondary education may get a boost thanks to new funding for Indspire.

The national Indigenous-led charity has received $6 million from the federal government for its Building Brighter Futures: Bursaries, Scholarships and Awards program.

This funding will allow Indspire to offer scholarships and bursaries to 2,400 Indigenous students to pursue post-secondary training, Randy Boissonnault, the federal minister of employment, said in a statement Thursday.

“Receiving this $6 million investment from the Government of Canada for our Building Brighter Futures program is a transformative step toward supporting Indigenous students in their educational journeys,” said Mike DeGagné, Indspire’s president and CEO, in the announcement.

“It not only fuels their personal and academic growth but also strengthens the foundation for vibrant communities and a thriving Canadian economy.”

The federal government’s Supports for Student Learning Program funds organizations that aim to reach students who face greater barriers to education such as Indigenous students, visible minority and racialized students, students living with disabilities, students living in a low-income household and students identifying as 2SLGBTQI+.

Activities such as bursaries and scholarships, tutoring sessions, mentoring programs, mental and social well-being services and opportunities to study abroad are all geared toward helping students to stay in school and gain new skills.

Indspire did by verifying their NTI Beneficiary card….so Indspire did what was required. It is NTI that needs to verify its beneficiaries

So you think they can just accept the qualifications from one organization?
Not doing further due diligence can be expensive, don’t you think?

How does one challenge the birthright organization responsible for identifying its members Paul? It’s not blood quatum, so what do you suggest here when it comes to them identifying an Inuit? To not accept NTI bennificiary card that’s makes them a member of the lands claim? They should subjectively decide? Tell me your solution here? Their policy is simple, prove that a birthright or status has been given to you. Tell me what you would do Paul to identify if you are Indspire once provided NTI status?

There’s a reason government encourages people to hide and protect their identity. Specifically, sin and nti enrolment cards. One can easily record the numbers and use them for themselves.
