Inquest into death of Pond Inlet man set for November

Nunavut’s chief coroner is set to conduct an inquest into the circumstances that led to a man’s death while in Pond Inlet RCMP custody.
Jessie Peterloosie died on March 8, 2018.
The inquest is scheduled to run from Nov. 14 to 18. Its purpose is to explore why Peterloosie died and consider recommendations to prevent deaths in similar circumstances.
Coroner’s counsel Sheldon Toner will lead the inquest and Nunavut’s chief coroner, Khen Sagadraca, will preside over it.
It will be held at the Sauniq Hotel Conference Hall in Pond Inlet.
