Inquest into principal’s suicide

IQALUIT — An inquest has been ordered into the death of Nakasuk Elementary School principal Hal Richards.

Richards was found in his home after committing suicide June 9.

Chief coroner Elizabeth Copland said she ordered the inquest to clarify why Richards made the decision to end his life.

“There are so many questions as to what happened and maybe the jury can make recommendations to prevent this sort of incident from happening again,” she said.

The inquest will begin in early January 2002. All of those involved with events leading up to the incident will be interviewed to ascertain what happened.
