Intelligent life in Nunavut?
A New York think tank that promotes broadband internet for economic development has included Nunavut on its shortlist for the Top Seven Intelligent Communities of 2006.
The Intelligent Community Forum recognizes the work done by the Nunavut Broadband Development Corp. in bringing broadband internet to every community in the territory.
The theme of the 2006 Top Seven Communities is “sustainability.” That is, “development efforts that improve the quality of life and increase the economic prosperity of a community over the long term.”
The NBDC should be recognized, said Pangnirtung MLA Peter Kilabuk on Tuesday, for achieving international recognition in less than three years.
Nunavut is listed among 21 “smart communities” from 10 countries. The winners will be announced next June.
