Intermittent cellphone, internet disruptions are due to testing: GN
Northwestel’s troubleshooting might be interfering with cellphone and internet service across Nunavut
People accross Nunavut might be experiencing disruptions to their cellphone and internet connections as technicians work to resolve the cause of slow internet speeds.
The Government of Nunavut alerted the public of the work Wednesday in a public service announcement.
Northwestel, the largest telecommunication provider in the territory, is “performing testing and troubleshooting” to identify and correct the cause of slow internet speeds across Nunavut, according to the announcement.
It said some Nunavut communities might also experience disruptions to Bell Mobility services “due to work in upgrading their mobile network.”
The GN said it has been advised the work may result “in occasional outages, but no prolonged delays are expected.”
However, the outages might affect people’s ability to reach emergency services. If the normal phone numbers of these services can’t be reached, the GN offered these backups:
- Royal Canadian Mounted Police – attend in person;
- Iqaluit Fire Department – 867-222-2954;
- Nunavut Emergency Management – NEM@gov.nu.ca;
- Nunavut Fire Marshal Office – NunavutFireMarshall@gov.nu.ca;
- Community Health Centre – Attend in person.

If you haven’t already, do yourself a favour and ditch Northwestel and Bell. You’ll be happy you did.
•Royal Canadian Mounted Police – attend in person
•Community Health Centre – Attend in person.
As if the staff in those locations are going sit in and wait for any emergency?
Someone or groups didn’t think this “test” thoroughly
Nwtel has milked everyone long enough. There’s a much better option out there now. If you haven’t moved on you should consider it.
Hard to believe people are actually considering buying this dumpster fire. Bell must be just tickled pink they can offload a stinker in the name of reconciliation.
