A Coral Harbour designer and artist is among six finalists for this year’s Sobey Art Award.

Tarralik Duffy, who works in drawing, sculpture, textiles and digital art, was included Tuesday in a news release from the National Gallery of Canada and the Sobey Art Foundation.

She was chosen among the 30 long-listed contenders announced in April.

Duffy, who is known for her line of beluga vertebra disc earrings and necklaces, won the Kenojuak Ashevak Memorial Award in 2021.

The other artists included on the short list include Tania Willard, Chukwudubem Ukaigwe, Sandra Brewster, Swapnaa Tamhane and Hangama Amiri.

The Sobey Art Award is considered Canada’s most prestigious prize for contemporary visual art. It recognizes artists from across six regions — including the Circumpolar category added last year — and distributes a total of $465,000 in prize money.

The overall winner will receive $100,000, each of the five other shortlisted artists will get $25,000, and the remaining 24 long-listed artists each receive $10,000.

The winner of the award will be announced Nov. 8, with an exhibition featuring works by the six shortlisted artists at the National Gallery of Canada.

The exhibition will open Oct. 3 and run until Feb. 8, 2026.
