Inukjuak man charged after fatal stabbing of woman

A 45-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a woman after he arrived at a police station in Inukjuak on Monday to report he had committed a crime.
Police officers found the victim at a home in the community with stab wounds, Quebec police told Nunatsiaq News. She was rushed to the local health centre, where she was pronounced dead.
The man, 45-year-old Charlie Palliser, is charged with first degree murder. He appeared Wednesday before a judge via teleconference.
Court documents identify the woman as 41-year-old Elisabeth Qumak, described as being Palliser’s “intimate partner.”
The minimum sentence for a first-degree murder in Canada is an automatic life sentence with no eligibility for parole for 25 years.
Court documents also reveal the same man is also facing a break and enter and assault charge from an incident on July 17.
