First responders are taking part in a four-hour mock emergency Wednesday to test the Iqaluit airport’s emergency response plan.

The exercise is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in a closed area of the airport, the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Economic Development and Transportation said in a news release.

“The purpose of the exercise is to test the effectiveness of the airport’s Emergency Response Plan and to ensure that all responding agencies’ efforts are well-coordinated in the event of a real incident,” the release said.

Participants include the RCMP, Iqaluit City Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services and NavCanada.

There will be no impact to regular airport operations, the release said.
