People in Iqaluit may need to modify their workout routines later this month.
The aquatic centre’s gym and pool are set to close for annual scheduled maintenance and repairs, the city announced Monday.
The gym closure is planned for July 28 to Aug. 3, while the pool will be closed from July 28 to Aug. 13.
This maintenance helps reduce unplanned closures due to technical issues, the city said in a public service announcement.
“Each year, it is necessary to close the swimming pool and related facilities to complete maintenance required to meet public safety standards and service expectations,” the announcement said.
“This annual closure allows staff to perform critical work that cannot be completed while the facilities are in use.”

Can you please install bathing suit dryers in the changerooms (a standard appliance for public pools)? Also, this isn’t a maintenance suggestion per-se, but recently the custodians put up a dozen photos to instruct patrons to leave their outdoor shoes in that silly and impractical wall cubby instead of on the floor. Most of the spaces in the cubby are too narrow for both shoes/boots, and means stacking dirty shoes on top of each other. It takes far more time to clean dozens of tiny shelves/cubbies than it does to sweep the floor under the benches. Please go back to letting us leave outdoor shoes under the benches. Thanks for maintaining a great community facility for us to enjoy – we do appreciate your hard work.
