Iqaluit dump to reopen Tuesday for one day
Landfill will close again Wednesday with update to follow, after fire there last week

Iqaluit’s dump — closed since last Wednesday’s fire — will reopen Tuesday for one day, the city announced in a release.
However, it will close again Wednesday to allow the city’s fire response team to tour the site with a landfill consultant to review work done there and consider other possible changes.
After that, an update on the dump will be provided later Wednesday, the city’s communications manager Aleksey Cameron said in the release.
She said while the landfill is open Tuesday, it will not accept metal items. Also, the road to the deep sea port — also closed after the fire — will remain closed for public safety concerns.
The fire at the dump on Aug. 28 took crews about 10 hours to extinguish, and afterward they continued to monitor it for possible hot spot flare-ups.
No injuries were reported, and so far no cause has been announced.
Previously, the city asked that residents separate old batteries from their household trash and drop them off at the landfill entrance, and to not dispose of lit cigarette butts near the dump.

Spring has sprung, how long will this disaster of a city block access to causeway? So many people launch from there to go out on the land all spring. Instead of sending the fire department to fight the fire send the mayor to pop it one.
