Three Tundra Ridge residents were forced out of their homes and into a hotel Sunday night after a fire damaged one of the units at a six-unit complex, Iqaluit’s fire chief says.

A dryer fire broke out in a unit in the 2700’s on Sunday around 11 p.m., fire Chief Stephen McGean said.

The fire caused some damage but that was contained to one unit, he said.

The affected residents were from the unit where the fire occurred, as well the two neighbouring units. McGean said those two units were not damaged but there was a heavy smell of smoke.

All the residents in the 2700s were initially evacuated as a precaution after the fire was reported.
