Iqaluit household hazardous waste drop-off day set for Sept. 28
Residents can dispose of unwanted or unusable items such as automotive batteries, spray cans and anti-freeze
People in Iqaluit can drop off their household hazardous waste Sept. 28 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the airbase garage Building 621.
The city released a public service announcement Monday about the event, which allows people to safely dispose of their unwanted or unusable items.
Hazardous waste is often toxic or flammable and includes anti-freeze, adhesives, aerosols, automotive and household batteries, cleaners, corrosives, fuels, mercury, oxidizers, poisons, paint cans and spray paint, pharmaceuticals and solvents, according to the announcement.
Materials that will not be accepted include electronics waste, used oil, oil filters, oil containers, tires, propane tanks, biological waste, infectious waste, radioactive waste, explosives, ammunition or industrial waste.
Residents are asked to not remove labels from waste containers so that the materials can be properly identified and safely disposed of.
What are we supposed to do with those little 1lb propane tanks once they’re empty?
