Two Iqaluit men each face one count of aggravated assault after another Iqaluit man was found beaten and injured inside a residence yesterday, the RCMP said in a news release.
The two accused persons are Robbie Mikkigak, 32, and Charlie Ningeok, 32, of Iqaluit.
They were to have appeared before a justice of the peace at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, for a bail hearing, police said.
The police arrested the two men on the morning of Feb. 20, after they found a seriously injured man in the 2200s area of Iqaluit.
The man, aged 30, had suffered a beating. He was rushed to Qikiqtani General Hospital by ambulance to be treated for “serious but non-life threatening injuries,” the police said.
Aggravated assault is an assault that results in wounding, maiming, disfiguring or endangering the life of a victim.
It’s always prosecuted by indictment and carries a maximum penalty of 14 years’ imprisonment.
The RCMP says the incident is still under investigation and they ask anyone who witnessed the incident to call them at 867-979-1111.
