Standoff in Iqaluit safely resolved, say RCMP

One suspect is in police custody

Iqaluit RCMP say that a standoff with a potentially armed subject has ended peacefully.

This morning, Iqaluit police had told residents to avoid the 200s block of the Lower Iqaluit and Happy Valley area due to the standoff.

As of 2 p.m. the police said the standoff was over. According to a news release from the RCMP, the incident ended safely with one suspect in custody.

The incident involved a potentially armed and barricaded subject with several others in the residence, police had said.

In their update to media, the Iqaluit RCMP thanked the public for their patience and cooperation.

The Iqaluit RCMP say they will provide further information once the investigation is complete.
