Iqaluit police want the public to help them locate suspects in two separate robberies in the city last Saturday evening.

In the first incident, Iqaluit RCMP said a man was assaulted before suspects stole his wallet and cash near Baffin Gas at around 5:30 p.m.

There are three suspects in that incident, police said: a woman and two men, though they didn’t provide any other descriptions.

The victim sustained minor injuries; he was treated at Qikiqtani General Hospital and later released, the RCMP said in a June 18 release.

Later the same evening, June 15, an Iqaluit RCMP officer responded to another robbery, in which another man was beaten and had his wallet and cash stolen.

The second incident happened just before 8:30 p.m. on the trail between the Frobisher Inn and Inuksuk High School, Iqaluit RCMP said.

In this case, police are looking for two male suspects. One wore a black jacket, black pants and a black ball cap; the other wore white pants and a black jacket.

The victim in the second robbery was also treated and released from hospital.

Police said there is nothing to suggest the two incidents are related.

Anyone who may have witnessed the robberies or has information should contact the Iqaluit RCMP at 867-979-0123 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

The alcohol abuse, often and excessive drinking, damages a community. Speak up to those who do this shi%# not when they are drunk but when you see them sober. They bring everyone down with their cravings and there is far too much of it going on up here, to those alcoholics smarten up and get help.

This came out late Tuesday evening. The assaults happened on Saturday. Why wait so long to release this information? As if I’m going to to remember seeing a guy with black pants 3 days later. Same with the fire at Nanook school. It was something like two weeks later when the images were released.
