RCMP say they hope newly acquired surveillance footage will lead to the arrest of a suspect in a break-in at the Canada Post outlet on Astro Hill in Iqaluit last month.
The incident occurred Oct. 5 but details, including images from the video footage, were made public Monday afternoon in a news release issued by police.
The images show a suspect rummaging through mail and packages there, according to the release.
“A request was sent out to Canada Post for a copy of the surveillance video, and it is my understanding that the video was just acquired by the Iqaluit RCMP Detachment,” RCMP spokesperson Cpl. George Henrie said in an email to Nunatsiaq News on Monday.
“Efforts to identify the suspect were unsuccessful, therefore the RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect.”
On Nov. 14, the RCMP issued a news release describing 36 break-and-enters that occurred in Iqaluit this fall over a four-week period.
“Since Nov. 14, there may have been a few more [break-and-enters], I don’t have exact numbers,” Henrie said Monday.
“I cannot say at this moment if this is related to other [incidents].”
RCMP ask anyone with information about the break-ins to contact the Iqaluit RCMP detachment at 867-975-0123.

Thats , whats his name !
Wrong, that’s the odder feller
He took my ouncies!!!
Must be preparing for winter stay in jail due to homelessness
Do you remeber when you knew everyone in this town and the “suspect’s” father or older brother would take matters into their own hands to ensure this stops happening.
I miss that Iqaluit
October 5. Are you kidding?? Why did they only release the images 7 weeks, nearly two months after this happened? Especially in such a transient town!
Poor him, you could tell from his innocent face that he didn’t know he wasn’t supposed to break in to CP office and steal packages, he might have thought it was just another freebie he could use to support his family during these hard times.
He should be celebrated and used as a role model for ‘good’ kids in this town.
Hay old man you took my Amazon box jerk
someone knows . come on, help get such off the streets and CP, etc. ,
This person looks vaguely familiar. Maybe hang out near the B&W or other store with the photo?
We community members from Nunavut gets blamed in these smaller communities for such actions. Bootleg, drinking, break ins, when they don’t know who isz in small towns, very unsafe from actions who would make these safer towns who looks into them.
