Several streets in Iqaluit’s downtown core will be temporarily closed Monday as part of the community’s observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

From noon until 4 p.m., roads will be closed to traffic at the intersection of Mivvik Street and Sivumugiaq Street, where the Royal Bank is located, extending one block north, east and west of the intersection, the City of Iqaluit announced Friday.

Queen Elizabeth Way will also be closed south to Iqaluit Square during that time.

At 1:30 p.m., the Qikiqtani Inuit Association will commemorate the day by handing out orange T-shirts at the Igluvut building, followed by a moment of silence at 2:20 p.m. There will be a community walk at 2:30 p.m. from the Igluvut building to Iqaluit Square.
