Iqaluit to get a spring cleaning on June 14
Volunteers will be served hot dogs, refreshments during annual community event
Iqaluit’s annual spring cleaning is set for mid-June.
People are encouraged to spend time outdoors and help clean the community on June 14 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., the City of Iqaluit said Tuesday in a public service announcement.
The city will provide garbage bags, gloves and other supplies, which can be picked up outside the Iqaluit library and Unikkaarvik Visitor Centre that day starting at 8:30 a.m.
Filled bags can tied off and left at the roadside for city staff to pick up throughout the day.
There will be a volunteer appreciation cookout from from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. with hot dogs and drinks outside the library and visitor centre.
“We are requesting that governments and other organizations allow their employees time away from work for a half day to be able to participate at the community cleanup,” city spokesperson Aleksey Cameron said in the announcement.
If the weather disrupts the June 14 event, an alternate cleanup date is set for June 20.
