RCMP have charged a woman with second-degree murder following a disturbance in Iqaluit’s Tundra Valley neighbourhood over the weekend.
Police found a 37-year-old woman with life threatening injuries in the city’s 2400 block at around 5:50 a.m. on Saturday, said RCMP spokesperson Sgt. George Henrie in a news release.
She was transported to Qikiqtani General hospital, where she died.
Christie Nutarariaq, 32, has been charged with second degree murder in relation to the incident.
The incident is unrelated to another murder charge that police announced Monday.
In that case, RCMP charged a 21-year-old Qaqasie Aningmiuq with second-degree murder, following an altercation on Oct. 6 that left one man dead.
Nutarariaq is in custody. Her next court appearance is set for Nov. 17.

So many murders, I would not be surprised if these were alcohol related, since the beer and wine store were opened serious crimes seem to have gone up, domestic violence, fights, public drunkenness. Kids being taken away by family services, in Iqaluit and the surrounding communities, Rankin and the surrounding communities, they all went up.
What is our Nunavut government going to do about this besides sitting on their thumbs? Pretending non of this is going on. GN you provided the fuel for the fire, what are you going to do to extinguish the fire?
Does our government have any plans on addressing the dire situation Nunavut is in, a lot of it thanks to the lack of efforts by our GN. MLAs where are you on this dire situation? Head in the sand?
We always look to the government or inuit orgs to change things. When will Nunavut realize its the people and culture that need to change. Its literally the old saying. When you point your finger, three fingers are pointing back at you.
Our leadership at the GN is so very weak, the MLAs are the horse that is pulling the cart while the bureaucrats lead the MLAs where they are headed. This has become a real problem with our government and our leadership.
Then stop electing completely uneducated and clueless people who have no abilities or relevant skills.
Garbage in, garbage out.
I believe the government resources are available for members of the community to take the lead to deal with local issues.
All that is required is some volunteers. The solution with the greatest chance of working is the one lead by the community.
