Iqaluit woman charged with aggravated assault

A 39-year-old Iqaluit woman has been charged with one count of aggravated assault in connection with an apparent stabbing.

According to a news release from Nunavut RCMP, officers responded to a disturbance in the 100s block of Iqaluit in the early hours of Tuesday, March 10, and found a 39-year-old man who appeared to have been stabbed.

The man was rushed to Qikiqtani General Hospital and treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The victim was later released from hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

Having carried out an initial investigation, according to the release, the Iqaluit RCMP and the V Division Forensic Identifications Unit executed a search warrant at a residence, where they arrested a woman.

She appeared before a justice of the peace and was released on conditions. Police did not provide the woman’ name.

Her next scheduled court date is April 6 in Iqaluit.

The police said that the investigation is ongoing and they ask anyone who has any information about the incident to contact them.
