Iqaluit deserves credit for waste management work

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

The critical masses to Iqaluit’s current waste management practices appear to have very short memories when it comes to the improvements achieved by the Town since the early 1990s. The Town of Iqaluit should be given some degree of recognition on the commissioning of a new “engineered” site in 1995, which put an end to the honey bag hill solid waste disposal fiasco.

Certainly more improvements are needed to the waste management practices of the Town. However, those demanding “instant” improvements should be made aware of their own contributions to the local solid waste stream, unless of course they send a sea-can south each year with all their recycling.
