Iqaluit teen dies in weekend mishap
A 17-year-old Iqaluit youth died on June 28 in Sylvia Grinnell Park, but police are remaining tight-lipped about the death while the young man’s body is in Edmonton for an autopsy.
The teen was apparently with four other people when something went awry within the boundaries of the popular territorial park.
One of the vehicle’s occupants walked to a phone at about 2:30 a.m. and called the police, said Staff Sgt. Kirke Hopkins. No other injuries were reported, he said.
The deceased male, who is not being identified at the family’s request, was found dead in a mini-van. The vehicle was not damaged and there were no obvious signs of an accident, Hopkins said.
The investigation was still underway as of Nunatsiaq News press-time this week.
